This evening, I witnessed a bicyclist get a little bit hit by a cab driver who'd just run a stop sign.

"You motherfucker!" the bicyclist yelled. "You just ran the stop sign and hit me!"

But instead of speeding off, or trying to weasel his way out of a lawsuit, the driver emerged from his cab with his arms outstretched, and enveloped the biker with a giant hug.

"Brother," the huggist said, "I'm sorry."

Immediately, the bicyclist switched from vengeful rage to sweet acceptance. After a couple minutes of talking, in which the bicyclist urged his newfound companion to never again roll through a stop sign, the two again hugged and parted ways.

The moral of this story: No matter the level of your injurious negligence, an unsolicited hug will buy you out of all consequences.

Melody [Mar. 29th, 2005|12:26 pm]
She's super loyal, yet not so loyal she'll stand by you when you're completely wrong.
She's one of the sweetest, yet so unexpectedly, toughest people around.
She was there for me during the hardest time of my life, and I've never felt that anything I could do, will ever amount to the amount of gratitude I have for her compassion.
She's very beautiful, in every possible meaning that entails.
She always smells sooooo fucking good.
Her taste in everything is impeccable.
I love My Melody.

E*rock invited me to the clothes swap party even though she was concerned enough to say, "If anyone asks, you're my uncle." Happy to say that nobody asked.

When I said to E*rock that talking for two hours on the phone was in the girlfriend-boyfriend realm, she said "I think of it more as two old ladies gossiping about the neighborhood."

E*rock played a three-stringed bass for the longest time and drew on it to make it look better.

E*rock asked me to let her know how her brother was doing, even though they are estranged, even though I said "Some people you just don't have to have in your life."

When I brought an old rubber ball to Heritage Park and kicked it around a bit, a little boy picked it up and started kicking it around and kept getting further and further away. When I made a motion towards them. E*rock said, "Let it go." And I said, "Wow. You're right."

If I wanted to ask someone if the proper word is "further" or "farther" I'd call E*rock, and she'd probably know.

When I told E*rock that Leah and I bought her a present, she said, "I'm afraid" in a cute way.

hugs all around! here's my submission

my grooveworthy best friend matt has been a part of my life for the past seven years, and here are just a few of the many wonderous things about him...

-matt has an amazing gift with words... they flow from his mouth like a thin strand of satin ribbon, and the phrases wind themselves around a person, enveloping him or her in such exquisite care, it's impossible to be wrapped up in anything else.

-matt has incredibly nimble fingers... he plays the rhythm guitar, and in that, he's the backbone of any ensemble there could possibly be... just as he is in any of his friends' lives... very versatile, yet very vital.

-matt has extreme patience and tolerance... as my naivete slowly dissipates, he still loves me just the same, and never pokes fun of my prior oversights or ignorant views. he nurtures a soul while also providing guidance to a more open mind. he's calm, pacifistic, and empathetic.

-matt is realistic. while he is a romantic, he doesn't let ideals intervene with his logic. he lets his heart lead him, and then lets his mind catch up, to follow through on his intuition.

-finally, matt is brave. he's weathered a lot, and his family isn't all that accepting of his bohemian and nomadic lifestyle. he does what he feels is right for himself and for the people he cares about. he takes a lot of shit for being the emotional sensitive guy, but he's nothing like the "emo" guy... he doesn't pretend to be emotional... he just is. he will always find a way to keep in touch with his close friends... he won't let them go... but at the same time, he has to let himself go and do what it is that makes him happy... even if it leaves him broke.

I know this community has been dead for a while, but perhaps now is a better time than any for a great big hug.

So, to get things going, here are five hugs for my good friend John Kerry, the junior senator from Massachusetts.

1. Had the balls to not only volunteer to fight in the nightmare that was Vietnam, but to also speak out loudly about the artocities he encountered while there, giving a small shred of hope to the severely damaged young men that shared his experiences.

2. Threw his hat in the ring to go up against one of the most dastardly presidents this country has ever had, knowing full well that said president's maniacal advisor would inflict upon him a hell rivaling the one he experienced in Nam.

3. Drafted an intensive policy plan to pull our fine country out of the shit-hole and back into the good graces of our international neighbors.

4. Refused to let his religious beliefs cloud his legislative decisions.

5. Managed to rally the support of 49 percent of the country against an incumbent war-time president, winning close to five million more votes than said president won in 2000.

Of course, I could go on. But perhaps I'll let you, fine community member, provide the rest.

This is for a friend who is most likely not reading this, but should be said regardless.

-Your patience with my inadvertent snobbery amazes me every day.
-Your patience with my inadvertent idiocy also amazes me.
-Generous isn't just an adjective for you, it's a way of life.
-You are surprisingly personal, accidentally poignant, and perfectly peevish. This makes you all that much more fun. Don't ever say you aren't confident and exciting, or I will hug that smug look right off of that pretty face of yours.
-I am guaranteed to smile in your presence, regardless of the circumstance. This alone deserves massive amounts of hug.

HI Everyone!

Got here via aurocka, who is the sweetest of the cool.

My five are about giddyupnow, who will never see this. They are pierydys and mimesere, but, like their collective journal, their shared 'one brain cell' is the reason of their ubercoolness. I'm glad to have both as my best friends. (1)

They are always there for me, like when I need them the most (2)

Sooo funny (3) and giving (4) to all! (5)

I love them! I love hugging them! For that matter, nice to be here! :hugs on all:

Doubling up [Jun. 3rd, 2004|12:46 am]

My friend ashod:

1. Is a successful, talented musician. Not surprisingly, many of his friends are musicians, specifically of the indie rock type. When he talks about his friends, he often mentions these indie rockers, but it's just like you or I discussing our no-name friends. No matter how much it may seem like name-dropping to casual listeners, it's simply not. To imply otherwise is mean-spirited and untruthful.

2. Can grow a beard like a motherhumper.

3. Introduced me to what would become South Park waaay before there was such a thing as South Park. At the time, it was just a bizarre animated short that we watched while waiting out a severe Boons drunk.

4. Owns The Vansion.

5. Is an A+ raconteur.

6. Cares for his elderly parents deeply, and you can see it in his face when he talks about them.

7. Lives in L.A., but I see him more than I see much of my family.

8. Drinks cheap beer from a can. I love cheap beer from a can. My wife hates cheap beer from a can.

9. Owns the greatest green acoustic guitar purchased in Tijuana that ever was.

10. Is worth every second that is spent with him.
